The Challenge of Creative Leadership by Gottlieb Guntern

Leadership is a special function in society which can take many forms and operates at all levels: a stateman, an orchestral conductor, an entrepreneur, the captain of a football team can - and should - all be leaders. Their success depends on their ability to inspire and motivate both themselves and others to extraordinary performances. Leader and followers unite in a common effort, a sole purpose, and are vital to one another. This volume is about creative leadership. The contributors are all individuals who have made an impact on the world for the good of the world. They come from many different creative positions, but they all have in common one main feature - creative leadership. The contributors to the book are Maya Angelou, Joseph Brodsky, Kazuhiko Nishi, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Wole Soyinka, Edna O'Brien, Helmut Maucher, Gerald M. Edelman and Jane Goodall Four of the nine contributors have been awarded the Nobel Prizes in recognition of their outstanding acomplishments. In this book, they share their personal experiences of creativity. They talk about the obstacles encountered, both within themselves and in society, and how they overcame them to achieve their goals. These distinguished and congenial personalities show the way for anyone who wishes to take up the challenge of creative leadership. The contributions are a selection of the papers presented at the International Zermatt Symposia on Creativity in Economics, Arts and Science between 1990 and 1995, organized by the International Foundation for Creativity and Leadership.
