The Changing Face of Britain from the Air by Leslie Gardiner

This illustrated book combines aerial photography with commentary to show how Britain has changed during the last 60 years. Aerofilms started photographing Britain from the air during the 1920s and in this selection, historic photographs are contrasted with contemporary colour photographs taken of the same scene, from the same angle during the summer of 1987. They reveal the changes that have taken place, as well as providing nostalgia and photographic evidence of the way history has played an integral part of Britain's landscape today. Ranging right across Britain, the pictures look at specific areas of the nation's life including changing urban landscapes, docks and shipping, famous landmarks, the coastline and the countryside. Leslie Gardiner is author of "France on Backroads", "Britain on Backroads", the "Fodor Guide to Scotland" and "The Best of British Motorways".
