Charlie Chan by Earl Derr Biggers

All one has to do today is pick up any religious book or magazine, listen to sermon topics, notice the number of seminars and counseling sessions on the family to know that our families are in deep trouble. The question is why?
George Barna has reported that families are epidemically being destroyed by divorce. The tragedy is that those who call themselves conservative are more likely to get a divorce than those who claim very little religious background. Although there are many different types of Baptist, Barna points out in his study that Baptists are at the top of the list when it comes to those getting divorced.
As a Southern Baptist pastor for nearly fifty years, I am alarmed at the number of members, as well as pastors and religious leaders in my own denomination who take a very humanistic world view of divorce and remarriage.
If those who conduct seminars, counselors, pastors, and denominational leaders have a humanistic world view of marriage rather than a biblical world view, how can they help curb the rise of divorce? It seems, that is to me, that the problem is having bandaids applied rather than radical surgery.
Years ago, in our seminaries and in denominational areas, the scriptures began to be compromised when it came to the permanency of marriage. As a result, this compromise was accepted by many pastors and brought to our churches.
