Child of the Sun by Leigh Brackett

A sweeping tale of destiny and exile set against the burning worlds of the inner Solar System, from Leigh Brackett at the height of her powers.

In Child of the Sun, Leigh Brackett ventures into the perilous frontiers of Mercury, where blistering heat, political intrigue, and ancient rivalries converge. A man divided between cultures and loyalties finds himself caught in a conflict that reaches beyond personal survival to the fate of entire settlements clinging to the edges of a hostile world.

Brackett's Mercury is rendered with stark intensity-sun-scorched plains, shadowed strongholds, and settlements balanced between ambition and ruin. As shifting alliances and long-held grievances ignite into open confrontation, the story explores identity, belonging, and the burden of inheritance beneath an unforgiving sky.

First published during the Golden Age of science fiction, Child of the Sun exemplifies Brackett's distinctive blend of planetary romance, frontier realism, and moral complexity, affirming her place among the most compelling voices of classic space adventure.
