Children of the Dead End by Patrick Macgill
Based on personal memories of his life in Ireland and Scotland during the early 1900s, Children of the Dead End is Patrick McGill's first novel. A best-seller from the outset, it has become a literary classic, unmatched in its acute portrayal of this dark corner of Irish and Scottish social history.
Patrick MacGill (24 December 1889 – 22 November 1963) was an Irish journalist, poet and novelist, known as "The Navvy Poet" because he had worked as a navvy before he began writing. An annual literary event, the Patrick MacGill Festival, is held in Donegal in his honour.
