An overview of the current state of the main Christian traditions and their standpoint in relation to other Christian churches. Topics covered with regard to each tradition include the structures of ministry and leadership, the understanding of the Church and mission, the views on unity and catholicity and the sources of ecclesiology: Scripture, tradition, reason etc. The traditions to be covered are: Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist and Pentecostal, and Old Catholic.
Paul Avis teaches Ecclesiology at Exeter University, is Vice-Chair of the Church of England's Faith and Order Advisory Group, and General Secretary of the Council for Christian Unity of the Church of England's General Synod.
