City Rising tells the story of two destitute Baghdadi boys who become opium lords - and the battles against the powerful British Opium companies - and the boys' eventual love of the City at the Bend in the River - Shanghai.


Rotenberg, David: - David Rotenberg has been a master acting teacher for over 25 years. He has directed on Broadway, in major regional theatres, for television, and he has published eleven novels. The five Zhong Fong novels are under consideration by HBO; his best selling historical fiction novel, SHANGHAI, has been optioned by Darius Films; his trilogy, THE JUNCTION CHRONICLES, has been optioned by Don Kurt who produced the Emmy award winning series Justified. David has taught at York University, the National Theatre School of Canada, the Shanghai Theatre Academy, the University of Cape Town, and Princeton. He is the Artistic Director of the internationally renowned Professional Actors Lab in Toronto where students from as far afield as Turkey, South Africa, the USA, Hong Kong and the UK come to study acting. He also teaches in Los Angeles. He directed the first Canadian play in the People's Republic of China. Recently he directed at Penn State and opened a new professional theater in Toronto with his adaptation and direction of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.
