Clinical Oncology, 3Ed by Peter Hoskin

Now in its third edition, this comprehensive but concise textbook covering all aspects of modern cancer treatment has firmly become established as a favourite with junior doctors, medical students and other health care professionals. The text considers the whole breadth of cancer medicine, from epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis and presentation through to diagnosis, staging, management and prognosis for any given malignancy. For the 3rd edition, new developments in cancer treatments and more comprehensive coverage of tumour biology, palliative care, ethics, quality of life and communication have been included. There are also two additional chapters - on trial methodology and clinical evidence, and on the role of clinical case histories as an aid to understanding.
I recommend this book to not only the audience that the authors list, ie Junior doctors, nurses with special interest in oncology and other health-care specialists needing a core of basic knowledge in this field, but also to the various specialists in the oncology community. It gives to a medical oncologist an insight into the role of radiotherapy in oncology, and to a radiation oncologist an insight into medical management of cancer. Without going into too much detail, this is clinical oncology made rather alive.
