Desde 1973 hasta 1998 fue Jefe de Neurologü¾™†”¼a y Director del Servicio de Neurologü¾™†”¼a del Presbyterian Hospital. Fundador junto con el profesor Salvatore Dimauro, fue Co-Director del Houston Merritt Clinical Research Center for Muscular Dystrophy and Related Diseases en el Columbia University Medical Center. Igualmente, fuen fundador y Co-Director del Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA/ALS Center. Licenciado por la Unviersidad de Yale cum laude, es autor de numerosos artü¾™†”¼culos y libros y ha sido editor en jefe de Neurology desde 1977a 1987.
Igualmente, el doctor Rowland ha sido presidente de la American Neurological Association (1980-81), Presidente de la American Academy of Neurology (1989-91), y actualmente es Presidente de la Fundaciü¾Œ¶˜¼n de la enfermedad de Parkinson.
