Mick Manning grew up in Haworth, West Yorkshire, and went to the Royal College of Art in London to study illustration. He has collaborated on over 60 books with his girlfriend Brita Granstrom, the majority of which he has written and illustrated. Their unique books have garnered numerous honors. The World is Full of Babies, their first book, earned the Smarties Silver Award in 1996. The widely regarded Fly on the Wall series, which includes Roman Fort, Pharaoh's Egypt, Viking Longship, Greek Hero, Tail-End Charlie, and What Mr Darwin Seen, is one of their previous collaborations with Frances Lincoln.
The English Association 4-11 Awards shortlisted both Roman Fort and Viking Longship, with Greek Hero winning in 2008. Wow, that was quick! Mick and Brita, who reside in the Scottish Borders with their four sons, recently donated the complete body of work made for their book Fly on the Wall: Greek Hero to Seven Stories, a center for children's books.
