Cockleshell Commando: the Memoirs of Bill Sparks Dsm by William Sparks
One of only two survivors of the famous Cockleshell Hero raid, Bill Sparks' war and post-war career has never before been told in full. In this gripping book, he describes not only his part in Operation Frankton, the daring Gironde raid, and his escape back to Britain, but how he fought with the Greek Sacred Squadron thereafter. Always something of a military maverick, Bill's memoir is truly action-packed. Sadly this great character has now died.
Bill Sparks is a semi-retired Human Resources professional who resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with his wife of 36 years. He has four children and five grandchildren, who are also residents of Charlotte. Bill is a graduate of Towson University and has been employed as a Human Resources Director for several diverse organizations as well as starting and managing an Executive Search and Human Resources consulting business. He is currently working part time in what his wife calls his dream job as a golf attendant at a Charlotte Country Club.
