Colkirk Tales by Alfred Absolon
An extraordinary first-person account of life in rural Norfolk before the Great War, edited and released now by his grandson. Colkirk village is a place where folklore is as real as the seasons and the harvest is gathered by men and horses. This is an authentic and unforgettable memoir of life in a Norfolk village 1897-1929
Alfred Absolon was a farmer and ploughman in rural Norfolk at the turn of the century. He was also an artist, producing many sketches and watercolours throughout his life. He was born in 1893 and he set down his memories shortly before his death in 1979. Through him we have an extraordinary means of connecting to life in the farming community of Colkirk in the late Victorian and Edwardian period and through WWI and WWII. His memoir has been transcribed and published now for the first time by his descendants.
