Alun Lewis is acknowledged as one of the best British writers of World War II. This collection brings together his uncollected poems, as well as his books, "Raider's Dawn" and "Ha! Ha! Among the Trumpets". This is the third volume in a uniform edition of his writings.

Alun Lewis (1915-1944) grew up in the Aberdare area. He joined the South Wales Borderers and later served in the wars in India and Burma, where he died in March 1944 while on active duty. In 1942, John Pikoulis published Raiders Dawn, a collection of poems, and The Final Inspection, a collection of stories, in early 1943. John Pikoulis was a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University's Institute for Lifelong Learning. A critical study of William Faulkner and a biography of Alun Lewis are among his works.
