Norman MacCaig was born in the city of Edinburgh in the year 1910. His official education was deeply planted in Edinburgh soil: he went to the Royal High School, Edinburgh University, and finally Moray House, where he trained to be a teacher. After years of working with children, he went on to teach Creative Writing at Edinburgh University and then at the University of Stirling. In 1996, he passed away.
