The Commandant of Lubizec by Patrick Hicks
The Commandant Of Lubizec is inspired by the little known Nazi death camp programme, Operation Reinhardt - the code name given to the Nazi plan to murder Polish Jews in the General Government that led to two million people being sent to extermination camps. Hicks combines an historian's factual precision with a storyteller's compassion to create a stunning literary debut that reminds readers of how ordinary and matter of fact the face of evil can be. The end result is a powerful and haunting call to action against everyday injustices.Patrick Hicks is the author of five poetry collections and the novel The Commandant of Lubizec, which has won numerous awards. Glimmer Train, the Missouri Review, the New Ohio Review, Ploughshares, Prairie Schooner, and Tar River Poetry have all published his work. He is a professor in Sierra Nevada College's low-residency MFA program and a writer-in-residence at Augustana College. He resides in the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
