The Compleat Naturalist by Wilfrid Blunt

A lively and readable life of Linnaeus, author of Systema Naturae, charting his rise from being a poor student in Sweden to eventually founding the Royal Academy of Sciences.
Still a book for the common reader Spectator.. a highly entertaining account of a man who gave gardeners and botanists the language that we speak and write to this day. This new edition contains excellent illustrations from the collections of the Linnaean Society and invaluable appendices, written by the great Linneaus scholar William Stearn Times
Wilfrid Blunt was for many years senior drawing master at Eton. An Associate of the Royal College of Art and a fellow of the Linnean Society, he was the author of a number of biographies and books on European art and botany: his The Art of Botanical Illustration has become a standard work of reference. He died in 1987.
