Complete Chester Gould's Dick Tracy Volume 5 by Chester Gould
Presenting the fifth volume of IDW Publishing's deluxe hardcover collection of Chester Gould's timeless comic strip, Dick Tracy Volume Five once again contains over 500 comic strips from the series' early years, this time covering material that originally ran from January 1938 through July 1939. Included in this collection are Tracy story arcs such as Chief Shellberry, Karpse, Scardol, and Whip Chute.Chester Gould (1900-1985), the son of a newspaperman and grandson of a circuit-riding preacher, was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He began his education at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) before going to Northwestern University in Chicago, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1923. Before making it big with Dick Tracy in 1931, he created the lesser comic strips Fillum Fables and The Radio Catts. Originally known as Plainclothes Tracy, the renamed strip went on to become one of the most popular and well-known comic strips of all time, as well as a media and merchandise phenomenon. His peers awarded him the Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year twice.
Dick Tracy was written and illustrated by Gould until 1977, when he retired. With 14 Eisner Award nominations and three wins for best book, The Library of American Comics is the world's leading publisher of vintage newspaper comic strips. LOAC has established itself as the gold standard for historical comic strip reprints...The research and articles provide context and perspective, and the gorgeous reproduction of the content has saved these comics for those who knew them and opened up a new world of adventure for those who are finding them for the first time.
