Complete Illustrated World Encyclopedia of Insects by Walters Martin
This beautifully illustrated book provides an overview of the insect world. The introduction looks at insect anatomy, life cycles, social organization, feeding techniques, flying and the benefits of insects to humans. The majority of the book is an encyclopedia of insects organized geographically and by insect order. Identification details are provided for each insect, such as body hue and segmentation, shape and size, and the habitat where each can be found and the time of year. Differences between male and female species are included as well as changes in appearance at each life stage. 750 specially commissioned illustrations provide a rich visual record.
Martin Walters is a writer, editor and naturalist. He studied Zoology at Oxford and worked as Biological Sciences Editor at Cambridge University Press for many years before becoming a freelance editor and writer with a special interest in botany.
