The impact of repeatedly being told when young that he was a 'king' and a 'killer' is evident in his adult behaviour. Positive Thinking is a keystone of Trump's self-regard, learning it from the leading exponent, Norman Vincent Peale. who told him he would be 'America's greatest builder'. He also learnt hypnosis, probably when it was fashionable as NLP and he was keen to clinch real estate deals.

Hypnotherapists will lie or exaggerate to achieve the aims of their clients. This is ethical if the aim is to help a person give up an addiction or achieve a sense of well-being. Trump and other politicians also recognise that the truth is less important than emotions if they want to convince someone. Their objectives however are not therapeutic.

People are often afraid of hypnosis, but they cannot be left ignorant any longer. It's a natural part of being human; we all go into a trance regularly, when watching TV or doing repetitive tasks. Used well, hypnosis is a force for good. It is also a powerful tool to gain control over others. Some politicians, especially those on the far-right, are using hypnosis to sway public opinion. If an argument is going against them, they will use misdirection and exaggeration to divert attention from opposing views. Trump and others who imitate him are experts at using hypnotic confusion to cloud the truth.

For the past 25 years, Lisa Morgan has been practicing, teaching, and speaking about hypnosis, so it's no surprise that she recognized Trump's handshake as a classic hypnotic technique right at the start of his presidential campaign. Lisa spent a year traveling overland in India and Nepal after graduating from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, with a degree in Politics and Sociology. The travel bug had taken hold. Lisa turned her focus to business after earning a post-graduate certificate in education (PGCE) at the University of Birmingham, teaching in London, and a delightful two years as Head of Language and Communication at Green Island Secondary School in Jamaica. She worked as a consumer strategist for ad firms such as J. Walter Thompson.

Walter Thompson played a role in qualitative market research in London and Warsaw. This work piqued Lisa's interest in learning what individuals were truly thinking, rather than accepting what they said they were thinking. Lisa took a number of esoteric and experimental courses throughout the years, including hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). Wilf Proudfoot, a rich grocery businessman and former MP turned hypnotherapy, was a powerful teacher.

Lisa worked as the Planning and Research Director, Asia & Pacific regions, for a worldwide beverages firm - United Distillers, now Diageo - and led a Tokyo-based brand strategy and research consultancy after moving to Hong Kong and subsequently Japan for nine years. She started running visioning workshops and teaching hypnosis with NLP in Tokyo. Lisa has a unique perspective based on her mixed methodological research expertise in human motivation and marketing, as well as her practical knowledge of hypnosis. Her knowledge of hypnosis gives light on the influence and efficacy of current communication methods.

She believes that ethical hypnosis can help people not only achieve well-being, but also produce innovative ideas and solve issues in novel ways. Lisa has penned far too many research and strategy studies for corporate customers, as well as several pieces for trade publications, during the course of her career. She has presented at conferences and led workshops in the United Kingdom, the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
