Computational Intelligence (CI) is one of the most important powerful tools for research in the diverse fields of engineering sciences ranging from traditional fields of civil, mechanical engineering to vast sections of electrical, electronics and computer engineering and above all the biological and pharmaceutical sciences. The existing field has its origin in the functioning of the human brain in processing information, recognizing pattern, learning from observations and experiments, storing and retrieving information from memory, etc. In particular, the power industry being on the verge of epoch changing due to deregulation, the power engineers require Computational intelligence tools for proper planning, operation and control of the power system. Most of the CI tools are suitably formulated as some sort of optimization or decision making problems. These CI techniques provide the power utilities with innovative solutions for efficient analysis, optimal operation and control and intelligent decision making. Durbadal Mandal is assistant professor in the department of Electronics and Communication, National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India. He completed his B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, from Regional Engineering College, Durgapur in 1996. He received the M. Tech and Ph. D. degrees from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, in 2008 and 2011, respectively. His research interest areas are array antenna design and filter optimization via evolutionary computing techniques. He has over 240 research publications in Journals and Conferences of international repute.
Rajib Kar received his B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, from Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, West Bengal, India in the year 2001. He received the M. Tech and Ph. D. degrees from National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, West Bengal, India in the year 2008 and 2011, respectively. Presently, he is working as assistant professor of electronics and communication engineering at National Institute of Technology, Durgapur. His research interest area are VLSI signal Processing, Filter optimization via Evolutionary Computing Techniques. He has supervised 2 Ph. D students. He has published over 250 research papers in International Journals and Conferences.
Swagatam Das received the B. E. Tel. E., M. E. Tel. E (Control Engineering specialization) and Ph.D. degrees, all from Jadavpur University, India, in 2003, 2005, and 2009, respectively. Currently, he is serving as an Assistant Professor at the Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit of Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. His research interests include evolutionary computing, pattern recognition, multi-agent systems, and wireless communication. Dr. Das has published one research monograph, one edited volume, and more than 150 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. He is the founding co-editor-in-chief of Swarm and Evolutionary Computation, an international journal from Elsevier. He serves as associate editors of the IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems and Information Sciences (Elsevier). He is an editorial board member of Progress in Artificial Intelligence (Springer), Mathematical Problems in Engineering, International Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, and International Journal of Adaptive and Autonomous Communication Systems. He is the recipient of the 2012 Young Engineer Award from the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE).
Bijaya Ketan Panigrahi is Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department in Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. degree from Sambalpur University. He is serving as a chief editor to the International Journal of Power and Energy Conversion. His interests focus on Power Quality, FACTS Devices, Power System Protection, and AI Application to Power System.
