James Hamilton-Paterson is a British artist who lives and works in Italy. He is the author of many novels, including Loving Monsters and Gerontius, which won the Whitbread Best First Novel Award in 1989, as well as Seven-Tenths, a collection of essays about the lost majesty of the sea, and America's Boy, a study of Ferdinand Marcos and the Philippines. He's also a regular contributor to Granta and the author of two poetry collections.
