Helen Edmundson won The John Whiting Prize for her play The Clearing and has written a number of theatre adaptations and original works. She is the award-winning author of Coram Boy, which premiered on Broadway in 2007 and was nominated for five TONY Awards, and she won universal acclaim for her Donmar Theatre production of Calderon de la Barca's Life is a Dream. Swallows and Amazons, her adaptation of Arthur Ransome's novel, garnered five star reviews at the Vaudeville Theatre in London's West End in 2011 and will be touring the country in 2012.
