Corbridge Roman Site by John Dore

The Roman site at Corbridge was strategically placed at the intersection of one of the principal routes into Scotland and a line of communication between the Tyne and the Solway. Lying south of Hadrian's Wall, it was the site of a series of military forts and later a garrison town which flourished until the fifth century. The area now on view is only the nucleus of the garrison town. The museum contains a rich selection of finds from the forts and town.
