Counselling Problem Drinkers by Robin Davidson

A problem drinker, it is thought, will progress through a series of stages towards feeling motivated to change. The difficulty for the counsellor is in identifying the stage an individual has reached and then deciding which type of intervention to apply. "Counselling Problem Drinkers" takes the reader step by step through the issues surrounding denial, resistance, hesitancy, resolution and long-term commitment to permanent change. The book also puts counselling in context, looking at groupwork, community services and the influence of life events on problem drinkers.
