She's a two-time Minnesota Book Award finalist (for Four to the Pole and The FINAL Day of Kindergarten) and the recipient of the Association of Educational Publishers' Outstanding Achievement Award (for the Writer's Toolbox series). She graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul with a master's degree in fine arts.
