Coyote Stories by Mourning Dove
Talks about Coyote, the trickster, the selfish individualist, the imitator, and the protean character who puts the finishing touches on a world soon to receive human beings. This work also features Mole, his long-suffering wife, and all the other Animal People. It reveals why Skunk's tail is black and white, why Spider has long legs, and more.
Mourning Dove was the pen name of Christine Quintasket, a member of the Colville Federated Tribes of eastern Washington State. Jay Miller, formerly assistant director and editor at the D'Arcy McNickle Center for the History of the American Indian, Newberry Library, Chicago, now is an independent scholar and writer in Seattle. He is the compiler of Earthmaker: Tribal Stories from Native North America.
