Crafts for all Abilities by Sue Melville

This crafts guide should appeal to a range of ages and abilities. It is particularly suitable for anyone with limitations - the elderly, the very young or people with disabilities. It covers a wide range of projects, from making papier-mache bowls using balloons as moulds, to creating trinket boxes out of shells, greeting cards from raffia and flowers, and plaques from salt dough. Illustrated with step-by-step instructions, the book guides the reader through all the stages necessary to produce a variety of attractive and useful objects, many of which should be suitable as gifts. It also shows at a glance the materials necessary for each project, and none of them are expensive or difficult to find. Whether used as a form of therapy, to help recover forgotten skills, to boost shaky confidence or simply because one enjoys crafts, this book should provide plenty of inspirational ideas for achieving impressive results even if the reader is not particularly artistic.
Art and crafts have always dominated Sue Melville's life, and her enthusiasm for these subjects has inspired others - including many handicapped, elderly and young people whom she has worked with. She has run workshops for the unemployed, given talks, and taught at playgroups, schools and residential homes. She followed a four-year Embroidery course leading to a City and Guilds Creative Studies Certificate and she also has a BTEC Art and Design Diploma. Sue now lives in Abbotsbury, Dorset, where she and her husband run Wheelwrights Tea Rooms and regularly host textile exhibitions.
