Dr. Daniel Zwillinger works for Raytheon as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer. He was a requirements and test lead for tracking on the Ungraded Early Warning Radars (UEWR) and a systems requirements book boss for the Cobra Judy Replacement (CJR) ship. He was the test lead on an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and enhanced the Zumwalt destroyer's software certification procedure. Dan is a Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) subject matter expert (SME) in Test Optimization, Critical Chain Program Management, and Voice of the Customer. He is currently in charge of a project aimed at fostering trust in autonomous systems.
He won the President's award for outstanding Six Sigma project of the year twice while at Raytheon: once for transforming planning packages into work packages for the Patriot missile, and again for upgrading Raytheon's timecard system. He was in charge of the white belt training program for Six Sigma. Dan worked at Sandia Labs, JPL, Exxon, MITRE, IDA, BBN, and The Mathworks (where he created an early version of their Statistical Toolbox) before joining Raytheon. Zwillinger was the owner and president of Aztec Corporation for fifteen years.
Aztec earned multiple Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts as a small business. Many software programs for publishing companies were also developed by the company. Prior to joining Aztec, Zwillinger worked as a mathematics professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dan has produced works on differential equations, integration, statistics, and general mathematics, among other topics.
He is the editor-in-chief of the Chemical Rubber Company's (CRC) Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae and a member of the CRC's Handbook of Chemistry and Physics editorial board. Zwillinger graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) awarded him a PhD in applied mathematics. Zwillinger is an ASQ-certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist.
He is also a licensed pilot.
