Creative Handmade Paper by David Watson
This guide shows how to be creative and environmentally friendly at the same time using papers and plants to make unusual and beautiful textured papers. The basic techniques are illustrated with step-by-step photographs. The book shows how to use recycled paper, and gives advice on dyeing and scenting it. It also gives advice in changing the texture and stength of the paper, dyeing and scenting it, embossing and watermarking it. Finally, there is a wealth of beautifully textured writing papers and enveloped, sculptured pictures, collages, wallhanings and items such as hats, waistcoats, ties and shopping bags.
David Watson is an artist who specialises in experimental papermaking techniques. He has exhibited his work throughout Britain and in the USA, and has been involved in a number of artist-in-residence schemes, his placements including the Institute of Education, London; Derby Community Arts Centre; and Ovingdean Hall School for Deaf Children. He is currently a member of Red Herring, a Brighton-based group of artists. Frequently, David gives demonstrations of his work and conducts workshops for groups of all ages. Also, he teaches students pursuing a variety of arts and degree courses in colleges around the south-east of England. he carries out commissioned work regularly, and his clients include Boots PLC, BBC2 and Friends of the Earth. When time allows, he enjoys making leaded windows and he is an avid collector of discarded and recycled domestic goods which he used to furnish his home.
