Summary
The feel-good place to buy books

The Crisis of the Aristocracy, 1558-1641 by Lawrence Stone
Made by Lawrence Stone himself, this abridgement of his highly-regarded study omits many statistical details not needed by the non-specialized reader. It presents a new interpretation of the long-term social changes leading up to the English Revolution of the mid-seventeenth century.
Praise for the original edition:
The first major and comprehensive study of the English aristocracy as a group for any period of that history...By any standard, a remarkable book. * Historical Journal *
In its imaginative sweep, the quality of its writing, and its intellectual authority, [Stone's book] is a brilliant work. * The New York Review of Books *
