Both as historian and maker of culture, Foucault infused numerous disciplines of study with a new conceptual vocabulary and an agenda for future research. John Neubauer is professor emeritus of comparative literature at the University of Amsterdam. He is the author of inter alia of The Fin-de-Siecle Culture of Adolescence; The Emancipation of Music from Language; Symbolismus und symbolische Logik; and Bifocal Vision.
