He is author of several books on shame, including Shame, the Underside of Narcissism, The Culture of Shame, and multiple papers on shame and narcissism. He is a supervising analyst at Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and on the faculty of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Inc.
