Basharat Peer's powerful memoir about growing up in war-torn Kashmir.BASHARAT PEER was born in 1977 in Kashmir. At Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, he studied journalism and politics. He's worked as an editor at Foreign Affairs and a correspondent for Tehelka, India's premier English-language weekly. Among other publications, his writing has appeared in The Guardian, New Statesman, The Nation, Financial Times Magazine, N+1, and Columbia Journalism Review. His debut book, Curfewed Night, won the Vodafone Crossword Book Prize for English Non Fiction, one of India's most prestigious literary prizes. Peer lives in New York and is a Fellow at the Open Society Institute.
