Later, he worked for the United States government. The United States Congress, first in the Senate, then in the House of Representatives. Dr. Wedding served as the director of the Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH), a University of Missouri university research and policy center, for 19 years and lectured as a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Thailand and South Korea. He was the Associate Dean for International Programs at Alliant International University in San Francisco, where he was in charge of graduate psychology programs in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Mexico City.
He also taught at the American University of Antigua, a Caribbean medical school, for three years.
