A Curse Dark As Gold by Elizabeth Bunce

The gold thread promises Charlotte Miller a chance to save her family's beloved woollen mill. It promises a future for her sister, jobs for her townsfolk, security against her grasping uncle-maybe even true love. To get the thread, Charlotte must strike a bargain with its maker, the mysterious Jack Spinner. But the gleam of gold conjures a shadowy past-secrets ensnaring generations of Millers. And Charlotte's mill, her family, her love-what do those matter to a stranger who can spin straw into gold? This is an award-winning and wholly original retelling of 'Rumplestiltskin'.

Elizabeth C. is a writer who lives in the United States Bunce grew up on a regular diet of Sherlock Holmes, Trixie Belden, and Quincy, M.E., and at mock trials he was always the chief prosecutor. She's never had a governess, and no one has ever accused her of being uncontrollable, although a teacher once described her as argumentative, which she can prove to be false. She was the first recipient of the William C. Smith Award from the American Library Association. A Curse Dark as Gold won the Morris Prize for a debut novel written for young adults.

She and her husband, as well as their animals, live in Kansas City. Her debut book for middle-grade children is Premeditated Myrtle. Elizabeth C Bunce's website is elizabethcbunce.com.
