Jaime Luciano Balmes Urpia (1810-1848). Espana. Estudio en el Seminario de Vic filosofia y teologia, y continuo su formacion en la Universidad de Barcelona, en teologia y derecho. Se licencio en 1833 y fue profesor auxiliar y mas tarde profesor titular, tras ser doctor en leyes y canones. En 1834 estudio fisica y matematicas, siendo profesor de esta asignatura en el seminario de Vic. En 1840, tras vivir consagrado al estudio, comenzo a publicar sus obras, entre las que destacan: El Criterio, El protestantismo comparado con el catolicismo en sus relaciones con la civilizacion europea (1844), Filosofia fundamental (1846) y la Filosofia elemental (1847).
