The Customer is Always Wrong by Jeff Martin
From mom-and-pop general stores to big-box, strip-mall chains, it is impossible to consider the American experience without thinking about the buying-and-selling retail culture- the sales and the stockrooms, the shift managers, and the clock punchers. The Customer Is Always Wrong is a tragicomic and all-too revealing collection of essays by writers who have done their time behind the counter and lived to tell their tales. Jim DeRogatis, author of Let It Blurt, for example, describes hanging out with Al himself at Al Rocky's Music Store, while Colson Whitehead explains how three summers at a Long Island ice cream store gave him a lifelong aversion to all things dessert-like. This book not only shines a light on the absurdities of retail culture but finds the delight in it as well.
Founder of Business Mulligan, a community one hundred percent dedicated to helping business owners own their lives, Jeff Martin is a business growth expert who has created and owned several successful businesses, which range from real estate holdings to paramedical examination firms. Jeff was on the forefront of the DNA testing market and successfully navigated many challenges and industry changes as the market exploded in the late 1990s. These market changes forced several significant business model shifts, which were, at times, complicated and painful, but necessary for survival. His most recent venture was a nationwide DNA relationship testing company, which was named one of the fastest growing franchises as well as being listed in the Top 100 new franchises in its first year by Franchise Market Magazine. A veteran of the United States Navy, Jeff served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman to a Marine Corps artillery unit during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Jeff credits his combat experience for his leadership skills and the tenacity required to survive the ups and downs that come with being an early adopter in a new market. He is also a graduate of the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University. Jeff coaches business owners on organizing and growing their companies, and creating and launching digital products. He is an Infusionsoft Certified Partner and an expert in marketing and workflow automation. He lives with his wife Katie and their three children in Lafayette, Louisiana. He is active in his church and serves on a committee for the Boy Scouts of America.
