This book seeks to explore the problem of cybercrime, which is a continual and increasing threat to the information society. The author presents the hacker culture and also considers hacktivism and cyberterrorism; the trend towards hiring hackers to test systems; the role of hacking in next-generation warfare; and today's most important countermeasures.
Steven Furnell leads the Network Research Group at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom, and has been researching computer security issues for over nine years.  A member of the IEEE, he frequently reviews articles on Internet and security issues for several leading international journals. He recently advised the London Science Museum on its new cybercrime exhibit.
