Hiromu Arakawa, a Japanese manga artist, rose to prominence in 1999 with her award-winning manga Stray Dog. Fullmetal Alchemist was serialized from 2001 to 2010, with a 27-volume plot that became an international critical and economic success, winning both the Shogakukan Manga Award and the Seiun Award, and selling more than 70 million copies worldwide. Fullmetal Alchemist has been turned into anime twice, the first in 2003 with Fullmetal Alchemist and the second in 2009 with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
