Daisy Daydream the Nursery Rhyme Bus by Sue Wickstead

A story based on a, once real, Playbus. The Playbus was a much loved haven for children to come along and play. This is the fourth book about the Playbus and begins with a red London, double-decker bus which is being updated by newer shinier buses. A picture book for children aged 5 - 8 With a theme of recycling the story has a message that not everything old should be thrown away. Any child who enjoys stories about transport will love this and of course will want to find a playbus to play on.
''A sweet story, wonderfully illustrated, and with a very important message' The Wishing Shelf ; REVIEW ; I very much enjoyed this short story for children; but, most importantly, so did my young daughter. The writing style, often simple but always very, very visual, works perfectly for a picture book of this nature. Pacing is also excellent, the paragraphs never overly long, perfect for a restless child at bedtime. ;There was so much to enjoy here, whether it be the wonderfully playful language - I particularly loved 'Her new green and blue colours became a landscape filled with trees and rolling hills - or Daisy, the bus, who helps the young reader to understand how not everything old should be thrown away. ; I must devote a little ink to discussing the drawings. For my daughter, they were the best part of the book. Yes, she enjoyed the plot, the small number of characters and settings, but it was the colourful, even delightful drawings that had her enthralled. There are plenty too, and they, along with the lightly-written story, kept her enthralled at bedtime. ;I would think any parent who is looking for a lightly-written, sweet story for children aged 5 - 8 would find this book fits the bill perfectly. Also, there's a lovely theme of 'recycling' to the story that parents will be happy to share with young children. And, of course, any child who enjoys this book will instantly want to find a play bus to play on. I know my daughter did. ; Colorfully illustrated and with plenty happening to keep a child amused, it might prove very popular at bedtime. ; Sum it up in a few words: A happy, HAPPY book! Children will love it. Adults will too! REVIEW Reviewed By Mamta Madhavan for Readers’ Favorite ;Daisy Daydream the Nursery Rhyme Bus by Sue Wickstead is the delightful story of Daisy, the red double-decker bus who once traveled the streets of London. She was the number 73 bus and rode the Oxford Street route. Everything changed the day a bright red bus drove into the garage. The big red bus was shiny and new and had a door in the front, unlike Daisy. As more new buses came, Daisy understood that it would only be a matter of time before these buses replaced the old ones like her. One by one, the old buses disappeared and Daisy was worried, wondering what would happen to her. Her driver, Philip, and conductor, Val, had other plans. They decided to transform her into a play bus after having read a story about an old bus in the newspaper. Daisy’s name was changed to Daisy Daydream and she began her dream run. ;It is an adorable story based on a real play bus. Apart from introducing children to nursery rhyme characters, the story also conveys an important message – that of recycling the old and reusing it instead of throwing it away. The pictures are bright and colorful and they make the scenes vivid and bring the entire story alive. The storybook is perfect for fun and interactive sessions in classrooms because it is educational. Parents will find it easy to teach their kids about nursery rhyme characters and nursery rhymes with the help of this story. It is a good book for all children who love traveling and exploring the city in a bus.
Wickstead, Sue: - Sue Wickstead is a teacher and an author and has written children's picture books with a bus theme. Sue's stories are about a playbus. Have you ever been on a Playbus? When Sue's two children were young, they attended a playgroup on a bus, but not an ordinary bus taking you on a journey, exciting though this is, but a Playbus stuffed full of toys to capture their imagination! For over 20 years, alongside her teaching career, Sue worked with the charity, The Bewbush Playbus Association, she painted the bus, worked in the groups, helped raise the profile of the project and its work and was part of the committee involved in raising funds to replace it with a newer vehicle. This led her to write a photographic history book about it. Sue remembers that it really was a fun journey to be involved in. The bus really got into her blood and became a work of the heart. Having written the history book Sue soon found that many children had never been on a bus before, let alone a 'Playbus' and they wanted to know more. She began telling them stories about the bus and then decided to write a fictional tale. The real number plate for the bus was JJK261 and this gave him Jay-Jay the supersonic Bus his name. 'Jay-Jay the Supersonic Bus, ' came out in print in 2014. It is the story behind the original project and is his journey from a scrap-yard to being changed into a playbus for children to play in. From Fact to fiction the bus journey continues. This story has now been followed more picture books about buses. Daisy Daydream is the bus Sue painted. 'A Spooky Tale' and 'The Christmas Play Rehearsal' do indeed have a bus connection as well as links to Sue's teaching journey. Sue undertakes events and author bookings and loves to share her stories, she is also 'a patron of reading',
