Dancing Shoes by Noel Streatfeild

Aunt Cora is determined to turn two orphans, perky Hilary and sullen Rachel, into members of her dance troupe. But Rachel wants to keep Hilary from being one of Wintle s Little Wonders is it selfishness or something else? Misunderstandings and a spoiled cousin come together for a tale full of high drama. Originally published in 1957.

Noel Streatfeild, the plain middle child of two talented and attractive sisters, studied acting at RADA and worked as an actor for nine years before composing Dancing Shoes in 1936, which became an instant blockbuster. Noel touched many sectors of life as a vicarage daughter, factory girl, actress, model, social worker, writer, and fighter for good books. Her life experiences improved her storytelling, which became so popular that she was dubbed a national monument by the time she was eighty. She passed away in 1986.
