In a career spanning more than 20 years, Darcey Bussell achieved legendary status in the dance world. In 1985, at the age of 16, Darcey was accepted at the Royal Ballet’s National School in London, and in 1989 she became the youngest ever British ballerina to be given the honour of principal dancer. She was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2006, the same year in which she announced her retirement, with her final performance of MacMillan’s Song of the Earth in June of 2007.
