Dark Side of the Mitten by Tom Carr

Michigan's past has a more sinister side than what's commonly displayed on roadside historical markers. In Dark Side of the Mitten: Crimes of the Powerful and Powerful Criminals in Michigan's Past and Present, author Tom Carr presents a wide array of stories about Michigan's gritty and gruesome past, all told with his signature humor and irreverence.

Dark Side of the Mitten is a follow-up to Carr's best-selling Blood on the Mitten: Infamous Michigan Murders, 1700s-Present and MI BAD: Robbers, Cutthroats and Thieves in Michigan's Past and Present.

TOM CARR'S THIRD BOOK FOR MISSION POINT PRESS focuses on Michigan history and/or true crime. Prior to the release of Covid-19, he toured the state, presenting many of the stories from his books, as well as others that aren't, at libraries and service club meetings. He's looking forward to getting back to it once the pandemic has passed. Carr is a Northern Michigan-based freelance writer and journalist who previously worked for the Traverse City Record-Eagle for 25 years. For his investigative reporting, feature writing, breaking news, and humor writings, he has earned journalistic accolades.

Carr covered cops, courts, and crime on a regular basis. Carr has expanded out into other media as a freelancer, reporting and producing stories for Interlochen Public Radio, as well as having his work broadcast on NPR and Michigan Radio. The Detroit Free Press, the New York Daily News, traverseticker.com, Traverse Magazine, and other publications have published his work. Tom Carr is the author of Blood on the Mitten: Notorious Michigan Murders from the 1700s to the Present and MI BAD: Robbers, Cutthroats, and Thieves in Michigan's History and Present, as well as a contributor to Inside Upnorth, a Traverse City region travel guide published by Mission Point Publishing.

Carr and his wife, Maria, live and quarantine near Buckley, Michigan, where they reared their two sons.
