The David Brown Tractor Story: Part 1 by Stuart Gibbard
The first in a trilogy of books profiling in detail David Brown and its products. This Yorkshire company, based around Huddersfield, had its roots in wooden-pattern making for the looms and weaving machinery of the area in the 1850s but would go on to become a successful manufacturer of tractors.
A leading author and journalist specialising in tractors and machinery, Stuart Gibbard has produced many award-winning books and DVDs, including seminal works on Ford, Ferguson and David Brown. He is the former editor of both Old Tractor and Vintage Tractor & Countryside Heritage magazines, and is currently the editor of the David Brown Tractor Club's Tractor News. Devoting much of his time to historical research, Stuart has met and talked with many of the world's leading tractor designers and engineers, and has amassed a substantial reference library and photo archive. He also has a keen interest in early tractor literature, which he has developed into a mail order business run in partnership with his wife, Sue. Stuart has been collecting tractors for nearly 40 years and has an excellent practical knowledge of agriculture gained from running the family arable and bulb farm in South Lincolnshire until the early 1990s when he moved into journalism.
