Hobday, Paul: - Paul Hobday qualified as a doctor at Guy's in London in 1979 and after a few terrifying hospital jobs - scary for him but probably more so for his patients - settled as a GP in the Kent village of Sutton Valence and stayed for over thirty years. He felt very privileged to be trusted to care for sometimes four generations of the same family practicing real family medicine but apologises for his mistakes. Throughout that time he fought a seemingly losing battle to help protect the founding principles of the NHS against ignorant politicians, the medical establishment, a gullible media and a bewildered public. In desperation and anger he stood for Parliament on a Save the NHS platform in 2015, but having been left speechless by events, thought he would write it all down instead and detonate a book on the unsuspecting public. Despite all that, he feels his proudest achievements are his daughters whom he desperately wants not to have to get their future healthcare from an American-style moneymaking system.
