Deep Water by Tim Jeal
World War II has begun and in Cornwall, Leo invites schoolfriend Justin to stay the summer. Addicted to tales of adventure they swim to a ship moored out at sea, to prove it is a spy ship. The vessel proves to be heavily guarded, and, while Leo escapes, his mother must beg Justin's release.
Tim Jeal is a respected biographer and novelist. His lives of David Livingstone and Lord Baden-Powell are considered definitive works, and his two earlier historical novels were widely praised. He was also awarded the Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize for his third novel, Cushing's Crusade. He lives in London with his wife and three children and has a house on the Lizard Peninsular.
