Defend These Hands with Me by Julian Pottage
Julian Pottage worked on a number of books with the late Terence Reese, and this one pays homage to a man who was arguably the best bridge writer of his time. One of Reese's classics, Play these hands with me, pioneered the 'over-the-shoulder' style of bridge writing. What that book did for declarer play, the present one does for defense: readers can follow the thinking of an expert player, stopping at critical points in the deal to make their own decisions about how to continue. Julian Pottage (Wales) is best known as a bridge problem constructor, and his many awards include IBPA Book of the Year. His most recent book for MP was Defend or Declare?Julian Pottage has lived in Wales for 11 years with his wife and children. Julian is a contributor, columnist, and past associate editor of BRIDGE, with a background in occupational pensions and financial compliance. He now focuses on bridge writing, family, dog breeding, and photography. He is also the Daily Telegraph's bridge correspondent. Julian competed in the Commonwealth bridge games in 2014 and subsequently represented Wales in the European Championships and the Camrose home international in 2016. He has written over 25 books on bridge, contributes to other bridge periodicals, and commentates for simultaneous pairs events and BBO vugraph.
