The Demon Headmaster: Total Control by Gillian Cross

The thrilling book that has inspired the new 2019 CBBC series, The Demon Headmaster. Something strange is going on at Lizzie's school. Suddenly everyone's brilliant at something. Where have these amazing skills come from? It's as though the pupils have no power over their own actions. Could this be to do with the mysterious new headmaster?
Gillian Cross is one of the best children's novelists today and her stories of the Demon Headmaster are both fun and quite frightening* Daily Telegraph *
This is something of a reboot for the series, since aside from the title character none of the cast from the past six books returns. Ofsted rating? Outstanding. * The Finanical Times *
