Dervish by Tim Kelsey

Blending the present and the past, the Arabesque and the contemporary pop scene, Kurdish insurgents and whirling dervishes, this book attempts to portray the diversity of Turkey and Turkish society. Transvestite nightclubs, the problems of heritage, the theatre, the clash between Eastern and Western Turkey, tribes and the civil war between Turkish military and Kurdish separatists, the booming heroin trade and cultural intolerance, all form part of the book.
