Designs for Beaded Jewellery using Glass Beads by Maria Di Spirito
This wonderfully inspiring book shows forty-eight gorgeous designs for jewellery made with glass beads. There are precise details of the materials needed for the projects, which range from ethnic to elegant and from simple to sumptuous.Feb/Mar 07
This is a collection of some 48 jewellery pieces and, as the title suggests, uses a variety of glass beads including seeds, crystals, Czech flowers and leaves, Millefiore and fused glassVarious yarns, wire and chain are also used in the designs. Most of the designs are for necklaces and chokers and each one is beautifully illustrated witha full-colour, clear photograph. There are designs for every taste from light and casual (eg Spring and Summer chokers with wired loops filled with glass flowers and leaves) to more muted, elegant pieces (such as the Sugared Almond Necklaces or Chains with Pearls and Charms). Many designs use wire or chain; others use waxed cord or silk yarn. Unfortunately, there are no detailed instructions as to techniques used (eg how to make buttonhole fasteners), so this book would not be suitable for a beginner. For those who already use wire and cords in their work, however, this book would be a good source of inspiration, whilst the luscious-looking jewellery may also encourage the novice to explore new techniques in more depth.
